Mighty Corporation stays Mighty amid Smuggling Allegations |
Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima
reportedly issued crucial guidelines and deadline of the probe against Mighty
Corporation.
Amid the act done by the agency, other
non-government sector especially the journalists from a popular local news
broadsheet had blown out into proportion the alleged delay of BIR's probe
report and they pressed BIR officials to provide detailed explanation of it.
One particular writer of a popular
local broadsheet newspaper even said,
"...it seems that our darling Mighty
belonged to the high-end customers of our beloved officials in the BIR and the
BOC..."
The author was way into pinning down
both BIR officials and Mighty Corp executives for a series of anomalous
transactions. Example, the journalist emphasized on importation activities of
MC and said,
"...our darling Mighty supposedly undervalued
its importation of tobacco leaf and acetate tow, which was the main raw
material for the production of cigarette filters."
The journalist did not stop there
and continued its allegations like Mighty Corporation must be operating at huge
losses due to its low-priced cigarettes in the market. The same author also
noted the reason why MC is still around because of not paying the proper taxes.
Meanwhile, the WongChuKing Family, Owner
of Mighty Corporation had opened the doors of the company to investigators. They
allowed them to examine and scrutinize every detail of their books.
“I don't know what the fuss is all about” said one of the Family member and
Mighty Corporation executive in relation to the allegations.
